The ultimate search bait for adaptable pike tactics. At Gerrys Fishing, we know that pike can be fickle; one day they want a slow, lazy glide, and the next they want a frantic, high-vibration retrieve. The Savage Gear Deviator Tail is a masterclass in versatility, built on the legendary Deviator frame but enhanced with a customizable tail system. At 16.5cm and 48g, it is the perfect all-rounder size that can be fished comfortably on standard spinning or baitcasting gear.
What truly sets this lure apart is the Cross Jaw Lock system. It allows you to swap between a high-vibration Paddle Tail and a seductive, swimming Curl Tail in seconds. Furthermore, by flipping the tail direction (up or down) or switching between the dual tie points, you can completely alter the running depth and movement pattern, making it a four-in-one tool for any pike session.

Hybrid Action System: Use the Paddle Tail for a frantic, kicking action or the Curl Tail for a wide, crazy glide.
Cross Jaw Lock: A secure, mechanical tail-locking system that ensures you wont lose your soft plastic tail on a strike, while allowing for lightning-fast changes.
Double Tie Points: Use the front eyelet for super-shallow work over weed beds, or the top eyelet to get the lure down into medium-depth patrol routes.
Photo Printed Details: Utilizing high-resolution imagery of prey fish to ensure even the most pressured pike are fooled by the visual profile.
Scented Tails: Both supplied tails are infused with scent, adding a chemical trigger to the visual and vibrational attraction.
The Tail-Up vs. Tail-Down Trick: Experiment with the orientation of the Curl Tail using the Cross Jaw Lock. If you mount the tail pointing up, the lure will tend to stay higher in the water column and have a more stable glide. If you mount it pointing down, the tail creates more drag and lift at the rear, often causing the lure to dive slightly deeper and move with a more erratic, head-down hunting action.
Weedy Bays & Margins: Use the front tie point and the Paddle Tail to buzz the lure just over the top of submerged vegetation.
Open Water Searching: Use the top tie point and the Long Cast system to cover vast amounts of water, switching to the Curl Tail for a slower, more deliberate glide retrieve.
Cold Water Winter Pike: The Curl Tail is exceptional in winter; its subtle, flowing movement works beautifully at ultra-slow speeds when pike are less willing to chase a frantic bait.
Does it come with spare tails?
The pack includes the lure body plus two distinct tail types: a Paddle Tail and a Mini Curl Tail. Both are scented to provide extra attraction.
Is 48g too heavy for a standard spinning rod?
It is on the upper limit for a medium rod but perfect for a medium-heavy setup. If your rod is rated up to 50g or 60g, you will be able to launch this lure to the horizon using the internal Long Cast weight transfer system.
How does the Cross Jaw Lock work?
It is a mechanical clamp that bites into the soft plastic tail. Unlike glue or screw-in keepers, it is much faster to use and allows you to change the direction of the tail or the color of the tail in a matter of seconds.
Are the hooks strong enough for big pike?
Yes. It comes rigged with high-quality SGY 1X Black Nickel trebles. They are incredibly sharp and have the strength to handle the head-shakes of a specimen pike without straightening
