General Description
The PENN Pursuit V Labrax Combo is a perfectly matched setup for anglers who want to target seabass and other saltwater predators from shore or a boat. The rod and reel are engineered to work together, providing a balanced and effective tool for a wide range of lure fishing techniques. The V in the name indicates its the latest iteration of the Pursuit series, featuring updated materials and components.
Rod Specifications
- Length: 8 feet (2.44m). This is a versatile length for seabass fishing. Its long enough to achieve excellent casting distance from the shore or a pier, allowing you to cover a lot of water and reach distant feeding fish. Its also a good length for fishing from a boat, as it provides leverage for fighting fish without being cumbersome.
- Lure Rating: 20-50g. This is a medium-heavy rating, ideal for the types of lures commonly used for seabass. It can handle a variety of lure types, including heavier hard lures, jigs, and larger soft plastics, and is suitable for fishing in areas with stronger currents or in rougher conditions.
- Action: The rod has a fast action. This means the tip is sensitive enough to feel subtle bites and work lures effectively, while the powerful backbone provides the strength to set the hook and control a fighting fish.
- Sections: 2-piece. This is a practical and convenient design that makes the combo easy to transport and store.
- Blank Material: The rod is built with a lightweight and responsive carbon blank, designed to be strong and durable.
- Guides: It features saltwater-proof K-type guides. The K-type design helps prevent wind knots and tangles, which is a common frustration when using braided line, and the saltwater-proof construction ensures durability in harsh environments.
- Handle: The handle is made from high-density EVA foam, providing a comfortable and secure grip even when wet.
Reel Specifications
- Model: PENN Pursuit V 3000T. The 3000 size is a popular choice for this type of fishing, offering a good balance of line capacity and a compact design. The T likely indicates a Tangle-free or specialized spool design.
- Drag System: The reel is equipped with PENNs renowned HT-100 carbon fiber drag washers. This system provides a smooth, consistent, and powerful drag, with a maximum drag of around 5.5 kg (12 lbs), giving you the stopping power needed for a strong seabass.
- Bearings: It features a 4+1 sealed stainless steel ball bearing system. The sealed bearings provide smooth operation and protection against corrosion from saltwater.
- Body: The reel has a lightweight and corrosion-resistant graphite body.
- Gear Ratio: The gear ratio is 6.2:1, which is a high-speed retrieve. This allows you to quickly pick up slack line and effectively work fast-moving lures.
- Line Capacity (Mono):
- 0.28mm / 180m
- 0.31mm / 150m
- 0.36mm / 110m
