Returns Simplified. At Gerrys Fishing, we consider the Okuma 8K to be the definitive Big Pit reel for the modern carp angler. This isnt just a reel; its a dedicated distance-casting machine built for bulletproof endurance. Designed to tackle the largest venues in the UK and Europe, the 8K combines a massive large-diameter aluminum spool with a Slow Oscillation System to deliver casting distances that were previously only possible with reels at three times the price.
The 8K is engineered for total dominance over big fish. It features a staggering 18kg of stopping power via a Fast Progressive Drag system equipped with high-performance carbon washers.2 Finished in a sleek, tasteful black with a signature weighted wooden handle knob, the 8K offers the perfect blend of cult aesthetics and heavy-duty engineering.
The Okuma 8K is a high-capacity, heavy-duty powerhouse designed for big waters:

Slow Oscillation & Worm Shaft: This system ensures the line is laid in ultra-precise, parallel coils. This reduces friction to an absolute minimum during the cast, allowing the line to fly off the large-diameter spool for extreme distance.
18kg Carbon Disc Drag: The multi-disc drag system uses high-grade carbon washers, which are far more heat-resistant and durable than standard felt. This provides a locked-up power that can stop the largest carp in their tracks.
Hydro Block Water-Tight Seal: A specialized rubber gasket seals the drag system from water, grit, and slime. This ensures your drag remains smooth and consistent even after years of use in harsh conditions.
CFR: Cyclonic Flow Rotor: Every turn of the handle creates a cyclonic airflow that dries the rotor and internal housing. This active moisture removal is key to preventing internal corrosion
Rotor Brake System: A vital safety feature for big hitters. It locks the rotor in place when the bail arm is open, preventing it from spinning during a high-power cast and causing an accidental (and expensive) bail closure.
Double Stainless Steel Line Clips: For the first time, Okuma has provided two heavy-duty metal clips on the spool, allowing you to stay pinpoint accurate on two different spots.
Weighted Wooden Handle Knob: The knob is balanced to always rest in a vertical position, ensuring it is always in the exact same spot when you need to strike.
The 8K is a specialist tool for the most demanding scenarios:
Extreme Distance Carp Fishing: Built specifically for hitting 100+ yards on massive inland seas, gravel pits, and reservoirs.
European Continental Sessions: With a massive line capacity (550m of 0.35mm), it is the perfect choice for the huge lakes of France, Italy, and Spain.
Heavy River Barbel & Carp: The 4.7:1 gear ratio provides incredible winching power for retrieving 6oz-8oz leads in heavy river flows like the Trent or the Severn.
Specimen Pike Fishing: The 18kg drag and huge capacity make it a fantastic choice for long-range ledgering with large deadbaits on reservoirs.
Gerrys Pro Tip: The Okuma 8K features a Solid Aluminum Bail Wire. This is significantly thicker and more rigid than standard bail arms, designed to withstand the immense pressure of repetitive long-range casting with heavy leads (4oz-5oz) without bending or warping
