Pro Tip from Gerrys Fishing: To get the absolute best out of the Match Pro MK2, pay close attention to your casting drop. Because of the fast J-curve tip and rapid recovery, this rod responds exceptionally well to a smooth, progressive power stroke. It is rated for 150g175g, and we find it hits its sweet spot with a 5oz lead and a large streamlined bait. Always ensure your sliding winch is tightened securely before casting to maintain that perfect balance.
Long-Range Match Fishing: The ultimate tool for reaching distant sandbars where fish like whiting, dabs, and rays often congregate.
Clean Beach Specialist: Ideal for flatfish competitions where you need to feel every pluck and pull through a sensitive tip.
Mixed Ground Scenarios: Provides the backbone necessary to steer larger fish like cod or bass away from light snags or kelp edges.
Tournament Casting: While built for fishing, the crisp action and fast recovery make it an excellent choice for anglers looking to improve their pendulum or off-the-ground casting distances.
Q: How does this differ from the MK1?
A: The MK2 is noticeably slimmer and better balanced. Anyfish Anywhere has utilized newer carbon technology to make the rod feel faster in the hand, meaning it recovers from the cast quicker and offers more control when playing fish.
Q: Can I use this rod with a fixed spool or a multiplier?
A: The Match Pro MK2 is primarily designed for use with a multiplier reel, but thanks to the Fuji BCMNAG guide spacing and the sliding reel seat, it can be used effectively with a large fixed spool if required.
Q: Does it come with a reducer?
A: Yes, the rod is supplied with a reducer, which is essential for comfort when fishing with the reel in the down position or when resting the rod in a tripod during high-tide sessions.
Q: Is the tip visible at night?
A: While the rod features a high-visibility tip finish, we recommend adding a small amount of reflective tape or using a tip light for the best results during night matches.
