Returns Simplified.TheMcPhail Leggy Dabbler Claret is a highly effective top-of-the-water wet fly designed to trigger aggressive takes from trout feeding just under the surface. Created by renowned fly designer, this pattern combines movement, profile, and silhouette in one deadly Irish lough fly.
The long, mobile legs and soft hackle imitate a wide range of natural food sources, from a drowned daddy long legs to buzzers and emerging insects. This versatility makes the Claret Leggy Dabbler a superb choice when trout are feeding high in the water and keying in on movement rather than a specific hatch.
Fished as the top dropper on a traditional team of wet flies, this pattern excels when pulled across the wind on Irish loughs. Its lively action and strong visual triggers often provoke confident takes, even in difficult conditions.
Irish lough trout are often opportunistic feeders, and the McPhail Leggy Dabbler Claret perfectly matches this behaviour. Its suggestive profile and constant movement make it irresistible during buzzer activity or when terrestrials are present, earning it a permanent place in many Irish anglers fly boxes.
