Garbolino Reel Supra Feeder 405FD 5000

Garbolino Reel Supra Feeder 405FD 5000

Step into the world of professional feeder fishing with the Garbolino Supra Feeder 405FD 5000. At Gerrys Fishing, we recognize that not every angler needs a flagship-priced reel to compete at a high level. The Supra Feeder range is designed to bridge the gap between entry-level gear and elite match tackle, offering a robust, reliable, and smooth-operating winch that can handle the relentless pace of modern commercial and natural venue feeder fishing.

The 5000 size is the heavy hitter of the Supra family. Featuring a wide-diameter, shallow aluminum spool, this reel is built for distance. The larger spool circumference allows the line to peel off with minimal friction, significantly increasing your casting accuracy and range. Inside, the 405 designation signifies a precision-engineered 5-bearing system. These high-quality ball bearings ensure that even when you are cranking a heavy feeder back from 50 meters out, the internal gears remain stable, smooth, and free from the grinding sensation often found in lesser reels.

Finished in a sleek, understated aesthetic, the Supra Feeder 405FD features a sensitive front drag system that provides incremental control. This is vital when playing hard-fighting fish on light hooklengths, allowing you to give line exactly when the fish surges, preventing break-offs at the net.

Detailed Specifications

Where to Use

• Distance Method Feeder Fishing: The 5000-sized spool is specifically designed to help you reach those far-bank islands or open-water marks that smaller reels struggle to hit consistently.

• Large Natural Venues: Perfect for targeting bream and skimmers on expansive reservoirs or lochs where you need to cast 40g+ feeders into deep water and retrieve them quickly to maximize your fishing time.

• Heavy River Tactics: The 5.1:1 gear ratio provides the grunt needed to pull medium-to-heavy feeders against a flowing current on rivers like the Trent or the Ouse without straining the internal mechanism.

• Hybrid Feeder Work: Ideal for use with 11ft and 12ft feeder rods, providing a balanced setup that feels powerful yet responsive when youre busy catching high numbers of F1s or match-sized carp.

Pro Tip

Gerrys Pro Tip: To maximize the casting potential of the Supra 5000s wide spool, we recommend using a high-quality, low-stretch mono or a dedicated feeder braid. Because the spool is shallow, you dont need a mile of backing. Fill the spool until the line sits approximately 1.5mm from the edge of the spool lip. This reduces line slap against the rod rings and can add vital extra yards to your cast. Always ensure your line clip is used correctly by feathering the line just before the feeder hits the water to prevent the line from snapping against the clip.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this reel better for braid or monofilament?

The Supra Feeder 405FD is designed to handle both. The shallow aluminum spool is perfect for braid as it prevents the line from bedding in, while the smooth oscillation ensures that monofilament is laid down evenly, reducing the risk of wind knots and tangles.

How does the 5-bearing system compare to more expensive reels?

While flagship reels like the 459FD feature more bearings for ultimate luxury, the 5-bearing system in the Supra is strategically placed at the most critical points of friction. This provides a remarkably smooth retrieve and, more importantly, ensures the longevity of the reel under the high-pressure conditions of feeder fishing.

Is the 5000 size too big for a 9ft rod?

Generally, a 5000 reel is best suited for 11ft, 12ft, or 13ft rods. On a short 9ft wand, a 5000 reel can feel a bit imbalanced. For shorter rods used for snaking or small-lake work, we would typically suggest a 3000 or 4000 size.

Does it have a spare spool?

The Supra Feeder 405FD is typically supplied with one high-quality aluminum spool. This keeps the cost down while ensuring the component you are using is of the highest possible quality. Replacement or spare spools can often be sourced through our Garbolino spares department here at Gerrys.
