Common Uses in Rig Making
The 3mm rig beads are used to separate and protect other components on a fishing line, especially in rigs used for beach casting and boat fishing.
- Stop Knots/Component Stops: Their most common use is to act as a barrier to stop swivels, clips, and other items from sliding up or down the main rig body. They are typically secured in place by crimps or knots on either side of a swivel to create a fixed anchor point for a snood (hook length).
- Knot Protection: When placed immediately next to a knot (like a snood knot or a swivel knot), the bead helps to absorb impact and cushion the knot, protecting it from abrasion or the shock of the cast.
- Attraction: The beads, particularly those in bright or fluorescent colours like Ruby Red or Chartreuse, can also serve as an attractor to the fish, adding a visual element near the bait.
- Spacer/Bearing: In some applications, they act as simple spacers to ensure components operate smoothly and independently, such as in certain running or sliding rigs.
