Returns Simplified. At Gerrys Fishing, we recognize the Okuma Solterra SLX 15 CSb as a significant evolution in saltwater trolling and boat reels. The CS in its name stands for High Speed, and with a swift 6.0:1 gear ratio, this reel is built for the angler who needs to recover line quicklyreclaiming nearly 42 inches of line with every single turn of the handle.
The SLX B series is specifically engineered to handle side loads. When a large fish is running at an angle, it puts immense pressure on the internal components; however, the Solterra is armed with specialized thrust bearings that reduce handle resistance under these extreme loads. This ensures that even when the 10kg Carbonite drag is screaming, you can still crank the handle with surprising ease.
The Solterra SLX 15 CSb combines a high-speed retrieve with heavy-duty stainless steel internals:

High-Speed Gearing: The 6.0:1 ratio makes this reel an exceptional choice for vertical jigging or clearing lines quickly when a fish is hooked on another rod.
Stainless Steel Main & Pinion Gears: Unlike many reels in this price bracket that use brass, the Solterra features hardened stainless steel gears. These are built to withstand the rigors of saltwater use without corroding or stripping under pressure.
Thrust Bearings: This is a stand-out feature for the SLX B generation. Thrust bearings support the internal shaft against lateral pressure, meaning the reel wont bind up or become hard to wind when a powerful fish is pulling hard to the side.
Carbonite Drag System: Utilizing Okumas specialized carbon-based drag washers, this system provides a smooth, heat-resistant performance that wont jerk or stick during high-speed runs.
Stainless Steel Body Armor: The frame is reinforced with stainless steel rings to reduce frame flex, ensuring the gears remain in perfect alignment even when the reel is pushed to its absolute limit.
Double Dog Anti-Reverse: For ultimate security, the reel uses a dual-system anti-reverse. This provides a rock-solid hookset and ensures there is no back-play in the handle when you strike.
The 15-size frame is highly versatile for various saltwater disciplines:
UK Wreck Fishing: The high-speed retrieve is a massive advantage when winding up large Pollack or Cod from deep-water wrecks, especially when using artificial lures or jigs.
Fast-Paced Sharking: Ideal for Blue Shark fishing where the high-speed recovery helps you stay in contact with a shark that decides to swim toward the boat.
Light Trolling: Perfect for trolling lures for Bass or even small pelagics abroad. The huge mono capacity (550 yards of 20lb) gives you plenty of insurance for long runs.
Specimen Rays & Smoothhounds: The smooth Carbonite drag and 10kg max pressure are more than enough to handle the most powerful Rays and Hounds found in UK inshore waters.
Gerrys Pro Tip: The Solterra SLX 15 CSb is a level wind deleted reel (Open Top), which is the preferred choice for experienced boat anglers. This allows you to use your thumb to guide the line back onto the spool, ensuring a perfect lay and giving you a direct feel for the line during the fight.
