The So Natural range was born from a simple realization: natural venues are unpredictable. To tackle the ever-changing conditions of UK rivers and deep lakes, Sonubaits teamed up with an elite roster of silverfish expertsincluding Des Shipp, Lee Kerry, and Steve Saundersto create a modular groundbait system. So Natural Black River is the heavy hitter of that lineup.
Specifically designed for deep water and moving currents, Black River is a dark, dense, and high-binding mix. Unlike active groundbaits that cloud the mid-water, this is a dormant mix. It is engineered to plummet straight to the bottom and stay there, creating a concentrated feeding zone that wont wash away in the flow. Its dark profile makes it the ultimate stealth bait for clear water or venues where fish are wary of bright patches on the deck.
Heavy & Dormant: The physical weight of the particles ensures the bait hits the bottom exactly where its needed, without leaving a trail of active particles that might attract small, unwanted fish into the mid-water.
Strong Binding Properties: Perfect for balling in on the pole or packing into a large feeder. It has the structural integrity to carry heavy loads of meat (chopped worms, casters, and hemp) to the lake or riverbed.
Stealthy Black Finish: Ideal for clear water conditions or winter fishing. The dark color provides a safe, natural-looking environment for roach and skimmers to settle over.
Modular Versatility: While its a powerhouse on its own, its designed to be mixed with other So Natural groundbaits (like Lake or River) to fine-tune the weight and activity of your mix.
Pro-Angler Developed: Every aspect, from the scent to the breakdown rate, has been refined by the UKs most successful natural-water match anglers.

To get the most out of this high-binding mix, consistency is key:
Empty the 1kg bag into a round mixing bucket.
Add Water: Fill a 1-pint maggot tub with water and pour it onto the groundbait.
Mix & Rest: Mix thoroughly by hand and allow it to rest for 30 minutes. This allows the heavy particles to fully absorb the moisture and reach their maximum binding potential.
The Pro Finish: Pass the mix through a medium riddle. This breaks up any heavy clumps and ensures an even, fluffy texture that will still bind tightly when compressed.
Session Maintenance: If the sun or wind dries the mix out, simply give it a light spray with a water mister and keep it covered with a damp towel.
Fast-Flowing Rivers: Essential for keeping your bait on the deck in a current. It creates a stable carpet of feed that fish can follow right up to your hookbait.
Deep Natural Lakes: When fishing in 10ft+ of water, lighter mixes can break up too early. Black River ensures your payload of worms and casters reaches the bottom intact.
Winter Stealth Tactics: When water clarity is high, use this mix to provide a discreet feeding area that wont spook big, cautious roach or skimmers.
Think of Black River as the anchor for your silverfish campaign. Because its a dormant mix, it doesnt fizz or move, which is exactly what you want when youre trying to build a big weight of bream or quality roach on the bottom. My top tip: dont be afraid to experiment with the mix. If you find the river is pushing a bit harder than expected, mix Black River 50/50 with So Natural River. It gives you the perfect balance of heavy and sticky. And if youre loading it with chopped worms, make sure the mix is slightly tacky so the worms dont crawl out of the balls before they hit the bottom!
Q: Will the black color stain my hands?
A: Because it uses high-quality dark ingredients and safe dyes to maintain its deep color, you may notice some temporary tinting on your hands while mixing. A quick wash with soap and water after the session will sort it out!
Q: Can I use this for Carp on commercials?
A: While designed for natural silverfish, its actually an excellent choice for down the edge in the winter on commercials. Its dark color and heavy nature are great for picking out bonus fish in clear margins.
Q: Does it contain fishmeal?
A: The So Natural range is generally formulated with more traditional natural ingredients (like cereals and biscuit) rather than high-protein fishmeals, making it much more attractive to wild silverfish.
Q: Why do I need to riddle it?
A: Riddling is especially important for heavy mixes like Black River. It introduces air into the mix, ensuring that even though the bait is heavy, it still breaks down correctly once its on the bottom rather than sitting like a lump of clay.
